Dr. Elisabeth PAUWELS obtained her medical degree from Antwerp University in 2002. She started her training with a research mandate of 2 years at the same institution. The research was about “The bladder effect in urinary incontinence”, with both in vitro research and clinical studies. This was followed by a further 5 clinical years of training, with extra attention for functional and female urology. These training years were concluded with an extra year of training at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw hospital in Aalst regarding robot-assisted surgery.
In 2009, Dr. Pauwels started working at the ZNA Hospital in Antwerp as a general urologist. During these years her interest and competence in functional urology grew. She was also part of the multidisciplinary pelvic floor team.
In 2015, she switched to the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw hospital in Aalst, where she focuses extra on functional and pelvic floor problems in women. Here too we have set up a multidisciplinary pelvic floor team.

Dr. Elisabeth PAUWELS behaalde haar artsendiploma aan de Antwerpse Universiteit in 2002. Ze startte haar opleiding met een onderzoeksmandaat van 2 jaren aan diezelfde instelling. Het onderzoek ging over “De blaaswerking bij urinaire incontinentie”, met zowel in vitro onderzoek als klinische studies. Nadien volgden nog 5 klinische jaren opleiding, met extra aandacht voor de functionele en vrouwelijke urologie. Deze opleidingsjaren werden afgesloten met een extra jaar opleiding aan het Onze-Lieve-Vrouwziekenhuis te Aalst ivm robotgeassisteerde heelkunde. In 2009 ging dr. Pauwels aan de slag in het ZNA Ziekenhuis in Antwerpen als algemeen uroloog. Tijdens deze jaren groeide haar interesse en bekwaamheid in de functionele urologie. Ze maakte ook deel uit van het multidisciplinaire bekkenbodem team. In 2015 maakte ze de overstap naar het Onze-Lieve-Vrouwziekenhuis te Aalst, waar ze zich extra toelegt op de functionele en bekkenbodemprobematiek bij dames. Ook hier hebben we een multidisciplinair bekkenbodem team opgericht. Lid van EAU, BVU, Belgische Werkgroep Functionele Urologie.
